Summary: Seq: Chaplain (Capt) John P Torp, 4th Bn, holds Thanksgiving services in the confusion of brush & branches. Soldiers during sermon. Torp serves Communion: dips wafers In wine, hands them to tired soldiers coming by. 2d Bn moves up trail for assault. Officer pauses to talk to a soldier. RV, soldiers take cover at trees, crouch, move on.Others join them. RV (CU), soldier on radio. Charred, unrecognizable corpse. Pan, tangle of brush and trees. A few men crouched. Soldier carries a rolled litter. Soldiers with a casualty on litter. Litter is put down. Soldiers move thru clutter. Wounded on litter is carried w/difficulty. Soldier runs by, then out of breath & crouched near another man. Soldiers near trees. In the bg a fire has started. Soldier calls out, points. Soldiers go thru brush. A man w/arm & neck bloody followed by a soldier. CU, unshaven soldier, looks about, talks. Soldier catches shovels thrown to him. Wounded soldier (above) is helped over branches. Soldier crouched and on radio. Soldier near him directs a man who walks in. Two men dig. Two men carry empty litters. Six men have a tough time carrying a man on a litter. CU, soldier speaks into radio; keeps talking as he gives handset to someone off screen. Soldiers seated among dead branches. Soldier near an MG talks to another man. Soldiers wary as they go thru tangle. CU, soldier w/rifle in his arms, chews gum looks around. Two men dig; an ammo belt is picked up. Soldier talks to wounded Sgt who lies on a litter waiting for copter. Sgt smokes. CU, Sgt (not smoking); a look of resignation. VS, Bravo Co, 4th Bn, firing 81mm mortar. Medivac copter hovers as soldiers get ready to put wounded aboard.
