Making the Future - Alain

Description

Alain is a 19-year old who works at Altek Electronics in Torrington, which makes circuit boards for mammography machines, elevators, etc. He was involved in the soldering program at Norwestern Community College while he was at Torrington High and the professor helped him get hired at Altek. He grew up dirt poor in Jamaica and moved here in 2009. Even though he was accepted to four colleges (with merit money), he did not want to carry any debt from college so he decided to work fulltime at Altek and go to school on scholarship at Tunxis Community College. He attends classes in the evenings after he finishes at work. ***DISCLAIMER: Since we aired this story in June, Alain passed away. It’s been devastating for his employer….and frankly, very hard on all of us who saw his tremendous potential.
