A phlebotomist is trained to make an incision in a vein with a needle to draw blood from a patient for diagnostic and other medical purposes. Postsecondary phlebotomy programs are available in community colleges and vocational schools. Professional certification in Ohio is through the American Society of Clinical Professionals.
