Making The Future - Millie

Description

Millie Ramirez is 23 years old, has a 4-year old daughter, and was born in Puerto Rico — moving to Connecticut when she was 12. She attended Prince Technical High School and received a manufacturing certificate from Asnuntuck Community College. Millie became a mother at just 19, which was a struggle, but she got back on her feet through a program in Hartford called Our Piece of the Pie that targets "at risk" students. Millie was first exposed to manufacturing at 10 years old in her native Puerto Rico, working at her uncle's factory. For the past three years, she has been working at Carey Manufacturing in Cheshire where she has excelled and is now a production supervisor, working closely with the engineering team. Millie has served on many panels to promote women in manufacturing, and provides daily leadership and inspiration to both young men and women in her chosen field.
