JANICE DARKO FOUNDED THE BLACK AND ART DENTAL STUDENT ASSOCIATION. AS THE FIRST BLACK FEMALE STUDENT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH SCHOOL OF DENTISTRY, SHE WANTED TO PROMOTE ORAL HEALTH EQUITY AND PROVIDE WAYS FOR STUDENTS TO EXPRESS THEIR IDENTITY THROUGH ART. WE VISIT ONE OF THE GALLERY SHOWS ORGANIZED FOR THE DENTAL COMMUNITY.
