Return of Indian Island

Description

KEET-TV examines the long-sought return of Indian Island from the city of Eureka to the Wiyot Tribe. The island has long been the center of the tribe’s spiritual universe. In 1860, however, settlers from Eureka paddled across Humboldt Bay in the middle of the night to massacre women and children on the island who’d come out to conduct the World Renewal Ceremony. The city voted in December to finally return the island to the Wiyot people.
