What to do if you think your Stimulus Check is the Wrong Amount

WNET

Description

The government has sent more than 130 million Americans stimulus checks during this crisis.

Some taxpayers now report getting too much or not enough—often related to the $500 paid for children.

So what should you do?

The IRS says unfortunately, taxpayers may not receive the full amount they think they’re owed until next year saying.

“They’ll be able to claim the additional amount when file their 2020 tax return.”

Now if you think your check is too small and it’s not child related, you’ll receive a letter via mail within 15 days of getting the money which explains the amount and how to report problems.

If you received too much you’re in luck: the IRS says you won’t be required to repay any payment when filing your 2020 return.
