Retired Docs and Med Students Join the Cause
Description
States across the country are asking for urgent help from retired doctors and recently graduated med students to help respond to the pandemic.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says about 76,000 health-care workers, many of them retired, have volunteered to help as of Sunday--and that some medical schools are starting to graduate students early so they can help relieve the shortage of personnel.
California’s Governor says he believes the state can add 37,000 healthcare workers by turning to recently retired providers and other in the process of getting a medical license and students enrolled in medical or nursing schools as they apply to the newly created California Health Corps.
Florida’s Governor says he will allow hospitals and law enforcement agencies to bring back recently retired workers.
