Description

Poet Dunya Mikhail was born in Baghdad in 1965. Famous for the subversive use of symbolism in her poetry, Dunya fled Iraq in the mid-1990s after discovering her name was on Saddam Hussein’s list of enemies. The Michigan resident describes the impact of poetry on her journey to becoming Iraqi-American.
